Hand of Nature | Abstract Hand/Forearm Display Piece | Naturally Fungus Stained Wood

This gorgeous display piece was hand crafted from foraged wood that has been naturally colored by the mycelium of the mushroom that grows on it. The mushroom, Chlorociboria, creates a pigment that is found nowhere else in nature. Hours of hand sanding have refined the natural shape to expose an abstract hand, as well as the deep green color of the fungi-stained wood. 400 grit sandpaper was used for the final sanding process, leaving a very smooth exterior. This smooth exterior is offset by natural cracks, holes, knots, and bug damage.

Due to the fickle nature of the wood and the difficulty in finding large, usable pieces, this is by far the largest Chlorociboria display piece I have ever created, or seen elsewhere. Measuring just under 14" long, it is a very close in size to a human forearm. The hole toward the bottom also gives the impression of the bones in the forearm as they connect to the elbow.

The exterior has been coated with two layers of natural Watco Danish Oil finish, and an Orange/Beeswax wood conditioner.

It was created as a display piece, but it also has practical use as a heck of a business card holder, if you happen to run a trade show booth or just want to flex at your office.
